Biography
Renee Robinson is a multi-lingual creative economy expert, content strategist, and globally-recognized thought-leader.
She has worked in Canada, Europe, USA, Africa, and the Caribbean – in film, television, digital content, and the arts and culture – and is a highly sought speaker on the international film festival circuit. With almost 20 years of experience in content strategy, public policy, industry intelligence, investment promotion, and international trade – she has held leadership roles at prestigious institutions such as the Harbourfront Centre, Women in Film & Television, the Canada Media Fund, the Toronto International Film Festival, and most recently as the third longest-serving Film Commissioner in the history of Jamaica, from 2016 to 2023.
Renee is a Global Leaders Fellow of the International Women’s Forum (IWF). She has served on the Board of C15 Studios and the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI); on Executive Committees at her alma maters Campion College and Williams College; and on funding advisory committees for Telefilm Canada and the European New Dawn Fund, among other boards. TidalRise, her private consultancy firm established in 2021, identifies and connects global financing resources, knowledge, and partners to high-caliber capital-ready commercially-viable Caribbean content. Clients have included the Boston Consulting Group, Hyphen Group, PwC, and UNESCO. Specialized expertise in her profile includes corporate governance, diversity facilitation, public speaking, team building, and stakeholder management.
With a MA in Communications and Cultural Policy and joint MBA in Arts Management from York University (2012), and a BA (Hons) in Art Studio and Art History from Williams College (2002), Renee is a ‘dip-brat’ and ‘third-culture kid’ and has travelled to over 50 countries. In her ‘spare time’ she is an advanced scuba diver, an amateur sommelier, a keen art historian, and a trained yogi. Renee used to be ENTJ, is now INFJ – and is also that person who says: “I know who you need to meet. I’ll introduce you…”
