Biography
Gabriel Saunders currently serves as the Digital Marketing Specialist for Experience Turks and Caicos and was previously the Senior Public Relations Officer for the Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board.
Saunders is also the Co-Founder of an early-stage biotechnology start-up, Decomp, which aims to tackle plastic waste pollution through utilizing plastic-degrading microbes. Notably, in 2021, Decomp was selected one of three winners in the Commission for Environmental Cooperation’s (CEC’s) Youth Innovation Challenge – providing the start-up with non-dilutive seed funding, and Saunders with the opportunity to present Decomp’s solution to the senior environmental officials of Canada, the United States, and Mexico during the CEC’s 28th Council Session.
Additionally, in 2021, Saunders was invited by the European Union’s Delegation (EUDEL) to Mexico to be a panelist at their Climate Action Conference. Saunders was also invited to the CEC’s 29th Council Session in Mexico, where he participated in a Youth Closed Meeting, contributing to a proposed set of actions for the CEC. Gabriel also engaged in discussions about Decomp with notable environmental leaders, including Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Steven Guilbeault; the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Administrator, Michael S. Regan; and Miguel Ángel Zerón from Mexico’s Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources.
Outside of his environmental work, Gabriel is also the Co-Founder of Turks and Caicos TV, a marketing agency that bridges influencers to the Turks and Caicos Islands to create opportunities for Turks and Caicos Islanders. Saunders serves on the Board of Directors for the Turks and Caicos Chamber of Commerce and serves as an Executive Committee Member for the Turks and Caicos International Film Festival. Gabriel’s experience in the entertainment industry includes serving as a Production Assistant for Seasons 3 through 5 of Netflix’s “Too Hot To Handle.”
Educationally, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Business with a Minor in Entrepreneurship, as well as a Master of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Technology (MBET), both from the University of Waterloo. A passionate reader, Gabriel’s interests span human and consumer behavior, marketing, and entrepreneurship. His favorite authors include Robert Greene and Jonah Berger.
