Embracing The Caribbean – A Region of Roots

General Session VI ~ All Delegates

Embracing The Caribbean – A Region of Roots

The long and profound colonial history of the Caribbean has resulted in a cultural hybridity of an intensity and complexity that is unrivalled in any other part of the world. It was out of this convergence of African, Amerindian, Asian and European cultures that all things Caribbean, including a unique genealogy, and wellness practices, were born.

This session will embark on a journey to trace the roots of the Caribbean through an in-depth look at the genealogy programmes of the region, as well as a journey to taste the roots of the Caribbean through exploration of the endemic wellness customs of a unique people who have preserved and developed the traditional medicinal and wellness practices of their ancestors.

In so doing, this discussion will solidify how the Caribbean, the Region of Roots, can use and has used some of its fundamental assets to sustainably enhance its tourism product in a way that is as inimitable as the region itself.
