Shadel Nyack Compton
Ms. Shadel Nyack Compton is the Owner and Managing Director of Belmont Estate, a fully functional historic plantation and premiere attraction in Grenada. In this role she is the visionary that transformed Belmont Estate from a floundering farm to an organization with a unique business model merging history, commerce, organic agriculture, tourism, environmental, community responsibility into a single viable enterprise. An attorney by profession, she holds a Juris Doctor and Masters in International Law from Georgetown University in Washington DC, USA, and a Masters in Agribusiness from Kansas State University, in Manhattan, Kansas, USA.
She has served as the Chair of the Grenada Board of Tourism, the Deputy Chair of the Grenada Tourism Authority, and as the President of the Grenada Organic Cocoa Farmers’ Co-operative Society Ltd. She is presently the President of the Indo-Grenadian Heritage Foundation, Director of the Grenada Organic Agriculture Movement and the Management Director of the Belmont Foundation the philanthropic arm of Belmont Estate that focuses on children’s education, elderly care, emergency relief and community development.
Ms. Nyack Compton has been recognized many times in the areas of entrepreneurship, environmental stewardship, organic agriculture and community outreach. She was named Businesswoman of the Year by the Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce in 2013, and this year and became the first Grenadian and first woman to receive the Anthony N Sabga Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship. She lives on the island of Grenada where she maintains a solo law practice while her emphasis is on rebuilding Belmont Estate as a flagship for sustainable farming and tourism, offering exceptional services, and developing single-sourced high quality valued added products from the raw produce to the finished product
