Mat Probasco is a New York-based journalist specializing in travel, food, drink, and a little of everything else. He is regularly featured in Cruise Industry News and Edible Bronx.
Mat’s Caribbean career started in Tortola for the BVI Beacon newspaper, where he was production manager, photo editor, sports editor, layout and design editor, and ad designer. He was later the Associated Press Virgin Islands reporter with the assignment to “find stories in the Virgin Islands that interest people who don’t live there.” At the same time he co-managing the boutique Galleon House Bed and Breakfast in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.
In recent years he’s edited a Chinese-language magazine in New York and taught English in Hong Kong public schools (both without benefit of knowing Chinese), created marketing strategies for a medical company, and helped launch a city-specific retail app.
Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Mat has a degree in journalism from The Evergreen State College. He lives in Manhattan where – in his free time – he paints, designs and sews clothing for his own label, appears in and consults for independent films and TV shows, writes and publishes deeply-unpopular music, and produces works of fiction. His first stage play, The Pond, is scheduled for an off-off-Broadway debut in February 2018.
